Hi, I’m Michelle Harris.
I’m a Realtor with Ojai Property Group, and I’ve been working in Ventura County real estate for decades. I’ve lived in the Ojai Valley for more than twenty years, and somewhere along the way, this place became home.
How I ended up in Ojai
I was living in Thousand Oaks when my youngest daughter started at Oak Grove School. For two years, I made the drive back and forth every day until I finally stopped fighting the tide. My husband and I figured out how to make the move happen, packed up our lives, and followed the road to Ojai.
I grew up moving all over the country and raised my first two kids in the Conejo Valley, but Ojai is the first place that’s ever truly felt like home. Once this valley gets its hooks in you, it’s hard to leave.
Decades of learning houses and buildings
My real estate career began in commercial sales and leasing. From there, I became the unofficial Queen of a mixed-use high-rise on Bunker Hill, directly across from MOCA in downtown Los Angeles. I managed that building for years before returning to Ventura County and joining JG Management, where we managed commercial properties.
Property management is kind of like getting a PhD in “stuff you hope never breaks.” You learn what roofs really cost, why septic systems always seem to quit at the worst possible time, what deferred maintenance looks like long before everyone else notices it, and which homes people actually enjoy living in, not just looking at.
Over the years, my work has taken me through commercial real estate, property management, leasing, and residential sales. All of it has taught me how to look beyond the staging and the sales pitch and understand how a property really works. Today, I’m with Ojai Property Group, helping buyers and sellers make smart, well-informed decisions throughout the valley.
How I work
Pretty listing photos are great. I love them too.
But I’m also looking at the things you can’t Photoshop.
I’ll notice the street at rush hour, the hillside behind the fence, where the water comes from, whether the house has been lovingly maintained, or just freshly painted.
If you’re buying, I’ll give you my honest opinion, even when it’s not what you were hoping to hear. If you’re selling, I’ll tell you what’s actually worth spending money on and what you can skip.
No drama. No sales pressure. Just honest advice so you can make good decisions.

Why I stay
People joke about “Slowjai,” and honestly, they’re not wrong. The speed limits are low enough that sometimes it feels like the bikes are winning.
Errands somehow turn into twenty-minute conversations. You bump into people you know at the grocery store. The mountains have a way of making everything feel just a little less urgent.
And then there’s the Pink Moment.
Just before sunset, the Topa Topas glow an unbelievable shade of pink. I’ve lived here for more than twenty years, and I still stop and stare whenever I catch it.
I’ve thought about moving closer to family more than once. Every time I seriously consider it, I look around this valley and think, “Maybe next year.”
So far, next year hasn’t come.
